Dear all,

Some might have believed we were down for the count, but on the contrary we have actually been quite busy working on the core of Lunar (and with our lives). Four very long years has passed by since our last release. Yet there have been a few adventurous souls still brave enough to try the old 1.6.5 release and get it up to date; it wasn’t an easy journey but some eventually made it through and learned a lot in the process.

With that said the Lunar team is extremely proud to announce the release of Lunar Linux 1.7.0 Release Candidate 2 codename ‘Sinus Successus’!

- The Lunar team

New features in 1.7.0

Out with sysvinit (gasp!) in with systemd (wth?!)

Kernel 3.16.2 and glibc 2.19

Added support for btrfs filesystem

Grub2 or lilo, pick your poison

Improved installer

Now with initrd support

A bunch of updated modules!

The Lunar team proudly announce the release of Lunar Linux 1.6.5-rc1 codename ‘Mare Ingenii’!

This project is still alive and we don’t intend to change that!

While news and updates on our main site may have been next to nil we assure you that the wheels have been turning behind the scenes. The Lunar team have been busy
keeping the modules up to date. The new ISO is also a proof that we are still in the game. Come on and help us test 1.6.5-rc1 and don’t be afraid to give us suggestions on how to make Lunar even better!

- The Lunar team

New features in 1.6.5

Based on kernel 2.6.34.1 and glibc 2.11.2

Added support for EXT4 filesystem

Added option to change preferred /etc/fstab style; UUID, LABEL or device name

Openssh and screen is now part of the LiveCD to allow remote assistance during install

Give us feedback through the bugtracker. You can also inform us directly on IRC and via our mailing lists, though the bug tracker is preferred.

Summary of changes since 1.6.4:

Hi,

Here is the third Release Candidate for the final 1.6.0-i686 series
Installation ISO. As with rc1 and rc2, this is a testing release and
approaches the quality we are looking for in the -final release. A
lot of small bugs in rc1 and rc2 have been addressed making this an
extremely useful release.

This release has several feature enhancements over rc1 and rc2. The
most noticeable is the Linux Software RAID tool that allows you
to install Lunar on Software RAID easily. Precompiled SELINUX
enhanced kernels can now be installed, and the server-targeted
kernels should have better IO performance. The installer now uses
normal console logins and fully enabled shells.

ChangeLog.iso

We encourage everyone to report all bugs as soon as possible back to us
so we can proceed with the release of 1.6.0-i686-final within a reasonable
amount of time. We currently estimate this at 4 weeks.

Enjoy,

Auke

Here is the second Release Candidate for the final 1.6.0-i686 series ISO. As with rc1, this is a testing release and approaches the quality we are looking for in the -final release. A lot of small bugs in rc1 have been addressed making this an extremely useful release.

Specifically, this release backups all packages to the installed system for recovery purposes. Dmidecode was added to aid hardware discovery – it shows a ton of handy output on your system’s hardware. Ethtool was added as well. The grsecurity kernels now actually are correctly built. A few popular lsi/ibm/dell raid drivers are now supported through modules (megaraid, mptspi, others). The precompiled server-targeted kernels were heavily optimized for throughput performance, greatly increasing PCI offload. Last one nasty hd selection bug was fixed.

lunar-1.6.0-i686-rc2 iso (255M)

Being the second release candidate I expect some minor bugs to surface once people start testing. Please file bugs accordingly in the tracker and mark them with the version of this release.

Dear all!

out of the blue I’m releasing a new lunar installation ISO RC, named
1.5.1 – “Gallium Arsenide”. Since I’m currently building a i386 version
and the i686 version has not seen extensive testing yet, I am releasing
the current state as RC1.

i686 download (240mb)
i386 download (220mb)

That should not withold anyone from trying to use this version or
actually use it for normal installation, but I would like to know that
this release candidate might not become the final release. Just so you know.

If no objections exist, RC1 will integrally become 1.5.1-i686-final.

This version fixes a few bugs with missing files in /etc/, and adds
support for displaying normal device names (/dev/sda, /dev/hda3 etc) in
the entire installer. Also, there are now proper default choices in the
language, font, charmap etc. menus to guide you. The network now starts
by default after installation.

The package list has been modified a bit and now includes wireless_tools,
lard as logging daemon, and xfs and reiserfs installs are now tested OK.
Plenty of minor adjustments were also made that are too countless to number.
