XOrg has been updated in moonbase to version X11R7.3

Updating from the previous version in moonbase should be handled automatically by lunar update.

However, there are 2 caveats:

If, after updating, your mouse is not working, please recompile xf86-input-mouse via lin xf86-input-mouse. Restart X afterwards.

The current NVIDIA driver (100.14.11) does not support XOrg 7.3

To bypass this problem you can add the -ignoreABI argument to the startx command, or have your login manager pass it to X.

NOTE: It may be a good idea to disable the composite extension until the next release.

Samuel

Update

As of today (19/09/2007) the NVIDIA driver (version 100.14.19) is compatible with XOrg 7.3, the -ignoreABI is no longer needed

Hello community,

I just added a new module to the moonbase called ‘drm-git’. It replaces the obsolete ‘libdrm-cvs’. Both modules have the sole purpose of providing the kernel interface modules for the direct rendering manager X uses to enable your video card’s 3D acceleration. So if you happen to have libdrm-cvs installed its going to get removed on the next run and you will have to install drm-git instead to get a fully accelerated X environment again.

ATTENTION: THIS DOES NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE USING THE NVIDIA OR FGLRX DRIVER! DO NOT lin mesa-lib! You don’t need it as the binary drivers you use provide the kernel modules on their own.

Alongside with this update comes a libdrm (regular version) update and a slight mesa-lib modification (which shouldn’t effect anyone actually). Although, if were using the mach64 or r300 driver provided by mesa-lib you will not be able to do that until the next mesa release since the drivers are temporarily disabled. I’m sorry for that inconvenience but they just do not compile.

Enjoy.

Hi,

I’ve just released the xorg-7.0 tree in the zbeta section of moonbase.

Many of you know Moe and me have been working on this first release for X11R7 for quite a long time.

Before you type in `lin XOrg7`, I’d like to point you to the documentation page in the lunar-linux wiki .

Read that page before you install XOrg7 on top of XOrg. If you do not follow those instructions… you’re on your own

Right now installing XOrg7 on a clean lunar-linux box will be rather flawless.

Migrating from XOrg though, is rather untested. Still we assume if you follow the instructions on the mentioned wiki page you should be able to upgrade.

I’d like to point you to the XOrg-7 forum thread and the bug-tracker tool for pointing out bugs, enhancements and/or recommendations.

Cheers, Samuel
