Hello!

We have received many questions as of late if the Lunar Linux project is still alive; the short answer to that is YES! Of course we can’t deny the fact that we are a little short on manpower right now, but packages are getting updated pretty much every day. If you want to track the package updates, head over to our GitHUB page.

Work is also ongoing to release a new official ISO, but we don’t have a firm release date set. While waiting for the official release we have been producing daily ISO’s that can be used until then, after all it’s only used to bootstrap your installation; Lunar Linux is as you know a rolling release distribution. The daily ISO’s can be found here.

Don’t hesitate to join our IRC channel #lunar on freenode if you have any questions, or if you just want to hang out with some nice people!

Lunar Linux 1.7.0 (i686 & x86_64) ISO’s released

Dear all,

You better believe it, the day you all have been waiting for has finally arrived. The Lunar team proudly announce the final release of Lunar Linux 1.7.0 codename ‘Sinus Successus’.

Like the phoenix rising from the ashes Lunar Linux is back with a vengeance; a lot of overhauling have been done all over the core tools, packages, installer and the ISO-builder. Even though our journey to reach this milestone have been a long one we hope that the changes and quality improvements we’ve made was worth the wait. So what are you waiting for? Go grab a copy of Lunar Linux while it is hot!

Lunar Linux 1.7.0-rc2 (i686 & x86_64) ISO’s released

Dear all,

Some might have believed we were down for the count, but on the contrary we have actually been quite busy working on the core of Lunar (and with our lives). Four very long years has passed by since our last release. Yet there have been a few adventurous souls still brave enough to try the old 1.6.5 release and get it up to date; it wasn’t an easy journey but some eventually made it through and learned a lot in the process.

With that said the Lunar team is extremely proud to announce the release of Lunar Linux 1.7.0 Release Candidate 2 codename ‘Sinus Successus’!

Service transition

Hello everyone!

We are about to wrap up the transition of the lunar services to our new hosts. There are still a few tasks that remains to be handled but we will get to them as fast as we possibly can. Should you notice any issues please don’t hesitate to tell me (Ratler) or Auke (sofar).

Lunar Linux 1.6.5 (i686 & x86_64) ISO’s released

Dear users,

The Lunar team proudly announce the final release of Lunar Linux 1.6.5 codename ‘Mare Ingenii’!

The last known issues with the ISO have been resolved. We added support for hybrid ISO in the last minute, which mean it’s a lot more easy to install lunar from an usb-stick from now on. The developers are currently brainstorming and voting on ideas to further improve the state of Lunar, an announcement about this will be made later. We also plan to let our users, yes you, to chip in with ideas that will be up for voting within our community, but more on that later. Enjoy the release of Lunar 1.6.5!

Based on kernel 2.6.35.3 and glibc 2.11.2
Hybrid ISO support
Added support for EXT4 filesystem
Added option to change preferred /etc/fstab style; UUID, LABEL or device name
Openssh and screen is now part of the LiveCD to allow remote assistance during install

Custom compilation of the kernel during install should once again be working

Added modules: yasm, gperf, libusb-compat, usbutils, xz, gmp, mpfr, cron-common, logrotate, rsyslog, iwlwifi-3945-ucode, iwlwifi-4965-ucode, iwlwifi-5000-ucode, screen, slang and mc
Removed modules: mktemp, lard and device-mapper
Grub2 tarball is available on the LiveCD for manual install
Fixed a few minor bugs with the installer
Rsyslog is now the new default syslog daemon
Wireless firmware available on the liveCD

The Lunar team proudly announce the release of Lunar Linux 1.6.5-rc1 codename ‘Mare Ingenii’!

This project is still alive and we don’t intend to change that!

While news and updates on our main site may have been next to nil we assure you that the wheels have been turning behind the scenes. The Lunar team have been busy
keeping the modules up to date. The new ISO is also a proof that we are still in the game. Come on and help us test 1.6.5-rc1 and don’t be afraid to give us suggestions on how to make Lunar even better!

The Lunar team proudly announce the final release of Lunar Linux 1.6.4 codename ‘Lacus Autumni’!

After almost two years since the last stable release it’s finally here, Lunar Linux 1.6.4. We’ve reached a new milestone, 1.6.4 is our most
polished release to date. Our hope is that everyone will enjoy it as much as we’ve done making it. The effort of improving our installer and iso
will of course continue. Stay tuned next year for some exciting new features that are in store for Lunar!

Dear users,

HEAR, HEAR! Lunar Linux 1.6.4-beta1 codename ‘Lacus Autumni’ just became available, so grab it while it’s hot!

We encourage everyone to give the latest ISO a test spin, your feedback is invaluable to us. With your help we will make Lunar even better!

We know it has been a long wait for a new ISO to become available that fixes all the problems using the old ISO’s, so wait no further! The 1.6.4 stable release is
just around the corner and we hope it will please everyone. As mentioned in our previous announcement XOrg and Xfce4 had to be removed from the ISO, as it was just not
worth the effort to maintain them. Instead we can put that effort into further improving our installer and ISO quality.

New features in 1.6.4

Fixed an issue with swap partitions showing up twice in fstab if more than one was added
Added a feature to list what filesystem type you chose for the assigned partition
We now disable /tmp on tmpfs if the user add a /tmp partition
Precompiled kernels will now get registered as installed
As mentioned the default kernel config now includes xfs, jfs and reiserfs as built-in

1.6.4-alpha3 (i686 & x86-64) ISO released

Dear users,

We are happy to announce that Lunar Linux 1.6.4 is coming closer to a release, 1.6.4-alpha3 codename ‘Lacus Autumni’ is available for testing.

It has been a long wait, but finally a new release is in the works that will correct all the issues installing Lunar using the old ISO’s. We have also decided to remove XOrg and XFCE that was available on the 1.6.2-beta2 release to shrink the ISO size a bit.

Summary of changes:

Fixes for the RAID MD configuration.
Improved language menu selection.
Installation from a USB stick or another media (more information about this later).
Grub fixes.
Other minor bugs.

Do you feel daring? If so, please try the new ISO and give us feedback through the bugtracker. You can also inform us directly on IRC and via our mailing lists, though the bug tracker is preferred.

Known issues:

Adding primary group for a user during installation fails. You must instead run:
- groupadd -g GID name
Booting from software raid is currently broken in this release with no workaround yet.
